You Don’t Need To Spend A Fortune On Proactive Skin Care

There are a lot of skin care products out there in various sizes, pretty packages and large price tags. If you have acne or other skin problems, are you condemned to pay for all of these expensive treatments? Do you really have to choose between healthy skin and an empty wallet?

No, of course not. If you want healthy skin, there are many lifestyle changes you can do to give yourself healthy skin, and other parts of your body, too. Don’t be passive and let a cosmetics company tell you what you must do for your unique skin. Turn to a proactive skin care regimen.

Want Does Proactive Mean?

Proactive is a relatively new word in the English language, but is being used more and more, especially by health care workers. The word proactive means to take steps now to avoid future problems. You are the active part of proactive. For proactive skin care, it’s up to you to do all the things you can to not only deal with any skin embarrassments now, but avoid more serious health difficulties like skin cancer in the future.

Here are inexpensive and practical proactive skin care tips recommended by the Mayo Clinic:

Stop Smoking

There are many reasons to stop smoking. Smoking has been known to cause lung cancer, heart problems and emphysema. Oh course, smoking also gives you rather yellow, dried out skin that wrinkles before it would normally wrinkle. So, this step in proactive skin care is proactive survival care.

Protect Your Skin From The Sun

The sun has been worshipped for millennia, seen as the giver of life. But the ultraviolet light in sunlight is also the giver of skin cancer, liver spots, premature wrinkling and dry, chapped skin. For proactive skin care, spend some money on sunscreen or a sun hat now to save a fortune in later health concerns. Also, if you can, avoid going outside when the sun is strongest (about 12-2 pm).

Wash Yourself, Don’t Scrub Yourself

There’s no need to scrub at yourself as if you are trying to remove mildew from bathroom tile. That can irritate your skin. Use warm water instead of boiling hot water. Pat yourself dry with a towel instead of scrubbing yourself down. And wash your hair regularly, because it also rubs against your skin.

Choose the gentlest skin cleaners you can find as part of your proactive skin care regime. Anything with a lot of harsh, alcohol based ingredients will strip all the natural oil, sebum, off of your skin. In one sense, this is good for the immediate moment, but the skin seems to panic when it realizes there is no sebum on it. The skin then overproduces sebum and becomes too oily.
